Prof. Titirici is the author of around highly cited 120 publications (h-index 49-Web of Science) in the field of sustainable materials and green nanochemistry, several book chapters and one edited book. She is in the editorial board of ChemSusChem (Wiley) and ChemPlusChem (Wiley) and an associate editor for J. Mater. Chem. A (RSC), having an impact factor of 8.9. She has been awarded over 3M funding from various funding bodies in Europe such as DFG, Max-Plank Society, EPSRC, EU, RSC or Royal Society.

Magda has been awarded this year the Rosenhain Medal and Price from the Institute of Materials and Mines in London in recognition of distinguished achievements in materials science under the age of 40. She has also been awarded the European Advanced Materials Award in 2016 and became a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2014.

Her research interests include porous materials, hydrothermal carbonisation, biomass to chemicals, innovative utilisation of biomass, gas storage, electrocatalysis in fuel cells as well as energy storage in secondary batteries and supercapacitors.

Ton Peijs‘research interests cover the whole technology platform from processing and characterisation to the performance evaluation and applications of polymers and their composites. In recent years, his work has mainly focused on the utilization of nanoscale architecture in polymers and composites, the creation of high-performance fibres for advanced all-polymer composites, intelligent fibres for smart textiles, and the development of novel materials based on renewable resources. TP is the author or co-author of over 200 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. He was the co-organiser and co-chairman of the 10th European Conference on Composite Materials (ECCM-10) and is the founder of the biannual International Conference Series on Eco-Composites (ECOCOMP). He is a member of the editorial board of seven leading journals in the field of materials, polymers and composites and was the conference chair for the 2008 Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Composites. He is the recipient of the 2008 Dutch Polymer Award of Polymer Technology Netherlands (PTN) and the 2010 Swinburne Medal & Prize of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). TP is a director of Nanoforce Technology Ltd a spin-out company, wholly-owned by QMUL devoted to nanocomposites research for exploitation by industry.

Ana Belén Jorge Sobrido did Chemistry degree at the Universidad de La Laguna (2000-2004) and her PhD in Materials Science in the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Barcelona and the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona within the framework of a FPU Scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education. In 2009 she was appointed as a Research Technician (Renewable Energies Area, LEITAT Technological Center) been involved in the FP7 Energy project EPHOCELL to develop organometallic materials based on rare earth with up-conversion and down-shifting properties. In 2011, she decided to come back to academia and moved to London to work at UCL Chemistry Department to investigate new graphitic carbon nitrides and their use for photocatalytic H2 and O2 evolution from water half-reactions showing excellent performance. Later on, she got involved in energy conversion and storage devices, including lithium-ion batteries, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells and water electrolysers. She is an expert in the preparation and testing of electroactive and photoactive materials for energy applications.
She currently holds an Academic fellow position at the Materials Research Institute (MRI), Queen Mary University of London ( since February 2016. Her research focuses in creating new micro-, and nano-architectures combining organic and inorganic compounds to produce new hybrid materials for energy applications, ranging from electrocatalysts for OER and ORR to photoanodes for photo-fuel cells and water splitting.
